The World’s Most Expensive Water Makes A Come Back; Find Out Why!

This verse has stuck to my head since class 10 when I first read the poem, “The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner”.  Although I wouldn’t go into the details of this piece, these two lines hold great significance and meaning in everyday life. It reflects on the fact that even though we may have plenty of something around us, it may still not be enough to satisfy our needs. Around the world, we’ve got the most high-end brands with products whose prices are skyrocketing. These extraordinarily priced items often make big headlines as they grab more eyeballs. They may even go on to make history by reserving a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

One such record holder that resurfaced in the recent times in the world’s most expensive water bottle. Hard to believe? We get you. While this extremely high-priced bottle made records in the year 2010, people have started talking about it yet again, all thanks to a recent social media post. Apparently, there was a tweet by a user which showed a picture of Nita Ambani, wife of Asia’s richest man, drinking water from the world’s most expensive water bottle during a cricket match at a stadium. News websites and other platforms were quick to report this incident based on the Twitter post. However, there was little truth to the story.

It was later verified by Nita Ambani’s team that the post had morphed her image to replace a regular plastic mineral water bottle with Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani, the world’s most expensive water.

What’s So Special About This Water?

The Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani comes in a 24 karat solid gold bottle and each bottle of 750 ml costs a whopping INR 44 lakhs.  As a tribute to Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, the late Italian artist, this gold-laden bottle has been designed by Fernando Altamirano, a luxury bottle designer.

Now, if you’re thinking all that glitters is not gold, we’ll tell you what’s in the gold bottle now. The water in each bottle comes from Fiji, France and glaciers of Iceland, making it one of the purest compositions of this drink. Since this pure water comes in gold-plated bottle, the alkalinity of the water increases as it reacts with gold and this makes it more powerful than regular mineral water.

It is believed that drinking this water acts as an energy booster, more than any other water. The factors responsible for the exorbitant pricing include the use of 5 grams of 24 karat gold that go into the making of the bottle, which forms a major chunk of the price along with the concoction of fresh water imported from different places. The auction of this bottle in the 2010 at US $60,000 has been contributed to the cause of fighting global warming by Planet Foundation.

Nevertheless, it is hard to accept that something as basic as water can actually become an item of luxury.
