Sprouts For Breakfast: 5 Ways To Add Them To Your Meal

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it should be the heartiest and healthiest. Among several options, sprouts are considered the best because not only are they filled with fibre, they have a low-calorie count, come packed with protein, and are loaded with vitamins A, B, and C.

Sprouts are known to help reduce cholesterol levels and benefit heart health, cleanse the body by removing toxins and boosting the immune system, fight early signs of ageing, and promote hair growth. The best aspect of including sprouts in your diet is you can consume them without cooking, hence, when you are rushing in the morning, your breakfast can be quickly served on the table.

However, most people run out of ways to add sprouts to their diet. Many just make a bowl of salad, which can get boring sometimes. Here are a few healthy and quick recipes that will make you look forward to eating sprouts for breakfast.

Sprouts Sandwich

The easiest recipe to create with sprouts is to make a sandwich. Cut your favourite vegetables like onion, tomato, and cucumber into thin slices, place them between two slices of bread with butter and chutney or sauce spread over them, and top them with a good amount of sprouts. To improve the taste, you can sprinkle lemon juice on sprouts and keep them aside while you slice the vegetables. It will add a zingy taste to sandwiches.

Sprouts Uttapam

Have you ever thought that you could make uttapam with sprouts? The first step is to steam or boil pre-soaked sprouts so that they are soft and easy to mash. Add semolina, water, and salt to taste, and curd to the bowl of sprouts to make a thick and instant paste for uttapam. You can make it interesting by adding finely chopped vegetables and boiled corn along with some spices to make it wholesome and flavourful. After keeping aside the batter for a good 15-20 minutes, you can make uttapam and serve it hot with your favourite chutney or sauce.

Sprouts With Avocado Toast

There are multiple ways to experiment with avocado toast, one of which is to top it with sprouts and vegetables. You can always add more flavours by adding thin slices of tomato, onion, cucumber, radish, or carrot over the mashed avocado spread, add a handful of soaked sprouts, sprinkle salt to taste, red chilli powder, and black pepper before taking a good flavourful bite of the toast.

Sprouts With Egg Wrap

If you want to load up on protein in the morning, sprouts can be prepared with eggs. While whisking eggs in a bowl, you can add sprouts, finely chopped vegetables, and spices to improve the nutritional quotient. You can either make scrambled eggs or an omelette to pair with tortilla wraps and tangy spreads.

Sprouts Frankie

If you are a vegan, you can skip eggs, and instead repeat the above recipe with boiled potatoes, sprouts, and other vegetables. A Frankie roll topped with chaat masala, black pepper, and chilli flakes will give a much-needed kickstart to the day. You can also use this mixture to make tikkis that can be shallow fried, baked, or cooked to perfection in the air fryer, and served hot with green chillies and coriander chutney. Enjoy your meal!
