As a self-proclaimed foodie who’s constantly sniffing out the freshest flavours and newest tables in town, I’ve learned that Chandigarh’s food scene is far from static. Even though Chandigarh is known for North Indian cuisine, the evolving culinary scene is sure to please you with something new every time without fail.

Whether you want to have a childhood favourite dish that evokes nostalgia or a global cuisine to get a bite of seafood, the newly launched menus in Chandigarh have something for everyone. Shortlisting the best ones for you, here is a Slurrp Review of the restaurants and cafes you simply cannot miss. So, read on to find out your next spot to dine, which is ready with a fresh menu to surprise you.

Kaanan, The Oberoi Sukhvilas Spa Resort, New Chandigarh

The new menu at Kaanan is a tribute to Punjab’s culinary history. Whether it’s the use of slow-cooking techniques, traditional clay ovens, sourcing fresh and local ingredients, or adding millet options to the dishes, each dish on the menu is infused with authentic Punjabi traditions, spices, and time-honoured techniques.

While at the regal location, I had tried some of the highlights like Amrud aur Malai ki Chaat, which is an innovative approach to the usual Punjabi chaat, traditionally made with deep-fried bhalle and papdis. Adding a healthier option, my personal favourite is dahi ke kebab, which is served in both deep-fried and pan-fried options.

As for the main course, the ‘Not A Butter Chicken’ got my attention, and it is everything but the same taste that you usually get at most Punjabi restaurants and dhabas. Also, their Masale ki Chaapein and Ludhiana Truffle Malai Chicken are something no foodie should miss out on.

Pleasing my sweet tooth, Chef Arindam Basu served Churi, a timeless Punjabi dessert that I’ve been enjoying since childhood. Made with millets, the Churi at Kaanan was the highlight of my meal. Other than that, their phirni and a luscious Tres Leches are the perfect additions to the new menu.

Koyo Koyo, Hyatt Centric, Chandigarh

In a city that’s slowly expanding beyond the classics like butter chicken and dal makhani, Koyo Koyo at Hyatt Centric Chandigarh has set the bar high for contemporary Asian cuisine. Now stepping into its third year, the restaurant has launched Koyo Koyo 3.0—a refreshed menu and dining experience that’s all about telling a story with every plate.

I started my meal with their freshly rolled Cheung Fun, the first ever for Chandigarh. Procuring the equipment and training their chefs to serve the authentic Asian staple, the Cheung Fun is silky and fresh and served with a punchy soy-based sauce. The Singaporean Chilli Crab is one of a kind, perfectly balancing heat and sweetness. I also tried the pan-fried noodles, and couldn’t help but reach for more.

The desserts, in particular, are whimsical showstoppers. From breaking the Tiramisu open to savour every bite to enjoying the piping hot Lava Cake, the desserts truly made their way to my heart.

United Coffee House Rewind, Chandigarh

Established in the early 1930s by Lala Hansraj Kalra, United Coffee House Rewind has been a cornerstone of Delhi’s social and culinary landscape for more than seven decades. Carrying this legacy forward is third-generation hotelier Mr. Akash Kalra, who has seamlessly blended tradition with the dishes and flavours that appeal to the younger generation.

Evoking nostalgia and continuously experimenting to serve the best, United Coffee House Rewind in Chandigarh has added some impeccable dishes to the menu. Just imagine what you would get when the staple bowl of mac and cheese meets a Punjabi mom who’s utterly fond of pakoras. Yes, they’ve added mac and cheese fritters to the menu, and I had my mind blown after having the fusion snack.

However, the Ludhianvi Pressure Cooker dishes stole the show. You can choose from your childhood favourites, Tariwala Meat Chawal, Chicken Curry Chawal, and of course, Jammu Rajmah Chawal. The dishes arrive at your table in a pressure cooker, and you watch the chef adding the aromatic tadka right where you’re sitting.

As for something sweet, don’t forget to try their Sizzling Sticky Toffee Pudding, Pull Me Tiramisu, and Atomic Kala Jamun. Everything from the spongy cake to the caramel sauce is made in-house, and when the sweetness is ‘just right’, you know for sure you’re coming back for more.

JW Marriott, Chandigarh

Making the most of the summer season, JW Marriott, located in the heart of Chandigarh, has launched a mango menu. Whether you want to have an elaborate brunch at JW Cafe, grab the Asian favourites at XO, or please your sweet tooth with mango offerings, JW Marriott is just the place to be.

I tried their mango menu, starting with a sour and sweet Thai Mango Salad and, of course, the seasonal Vietnamese Rolls. If you are looking for Indian cuisine, my favourite pick from the menu would be mango shrikhand, which is paired with fluffy puris. As for health-conscious diners, the menu also has bajra khichdi and ragi dosa to enjoy guilt-free.

Coming to my favourite part of a meal, that is, desserts, their mango cheesecake is one of the finest in Chandigarh. The crust is just perfect, and the cheesecake melts right into your mouth. You can also try their crunchy Mango Tart or the fusion dessert, Aam Panna Entremet, a layered dessert inspired by the summer beverage staple in most Punjabi homes.
