A delicious Desi-Chinese dish that is wildly popular is Honey-Chili Potatoes!  The most loved street food of the capital city. International boundaries were crossed in order to create this appetizing dish that is flavorful and filling. In Delhi - the Food Paradise, Honey Chilli Potatoes are an example of real fusion street food. They make a wonderful, lip-smacking evening snack and have quickly risen to the top of Delhi's list of vegetarian snack options.

This Honey Chilli Potato recipe calls for rice flour instead of cornstarch or maida. These deep-fried potato fingers combines Indian flavours and are tossed in a delicious sauce made of honey, chilli sauce, and sesame seeds, topped with spring onions. It is an incredibly tasty, crispy, and delightful Indian version. Without using cornflour or soy sauce, these crispy potato fries are made. A divine desi Chinese pleasure, these potato fingers are covered in a tangy, sweet sauce that is spicy as well.

The Acadians created the American dish known as Cajun potatoes, commonly referred to as honey chilly potatoes. Potato wedges served as the original inspiration for spicy potatoes. In essence, chilli potatoes are Chinese flavours and ingredients with an Indian twist. The Portuguese brought potatoes and chiles to India in the early 16th and 15th centuries, respectively. They were both born and raised in South America.

Servings – 2 


For Fried Potato Fingers - 

  • 4 Potatoes, long and large
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • ¼ cup Rice Flour 
  • 2 cup Refined Oil 

For Tomato Chilli Sauce – 

  • 3 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
  • Fried garlic
  • 2 tsp Chilli Flakes
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper

For Honey Chilli Potato

  • 1 tbsp Oil 
  • 1 Green Chilli, finely  chopped
  • 1 Capsicum, finely chopped
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds
  • 4-5 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Chilli Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 pinch Salt 

For Garnishing – 

  • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
  • ½ cup Green Onions, finely chopped

Method of Preparation

  •  Wash, rinse and clean the potatoes.
  • Cut them into thin and long rectangular shape just like French fries.
  • Move them to a large pot and add salt followed by rice flour. Mix thoroughly with hands.
  • Now, heat some oil in a pan over medium flame and deep fry the fingers for 5-6 minutes or till they are crispy. And then double fry it to make them even more crispy. Drain oil and move them on an absorbent paper.
  • Heat little oil and add minced garlic. Fry it well. 
  • Now, take a small bowl and combine all the ingredients mentioned under tomato chilli sauce. Keep aside
  • Heat some oil over high heat in a non-stick pan and add onions followed by green chilli. Sauté well.
  • Once the onions turns golden brown, add capsicum and mix for 2-3 minutes. Keep stirring continuously .
  • Add sesame seeds and let it crackle, followed by  tomato chilli sauce. Mix well.
  • Add little water and combine thoroughly.
  • Now, add honey and potato fingers. Stir for 2-3 minutes.
  • Garnish with green onions and serve hot!
