Makar Sankranti Special: Chef Renu Dalal’s Til Ki Chikki Recipe

Til is commonly consumed during the winter months in India for its immense health benefits. They make our bones stronger by adding calcium and manganese to our diet and providing us with essential vitamins and minerals. During Lohri and Makar Sankranti too, til is widely used for making desserts like chikki and ladoos.

Chikki is a sticky brittle that is made using a variety of nuts, seeds, and jaggery. From peanuts to sesame seeds, chikki is bound together with jaggery. This is another important element of most Makar Sankranti food specials. Since festivity is in the air and you’ve not got much time to prepare, we’ve got an easy recipe for til ki chikki by Chef Renu Dalal that you can savour at home.

Time To Prepare: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients: 

    1 tsp ghee 

    2 tbsp jaggery 

    ½ cup sesame seeds 

Method: 

    Roast the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan for 2–3 minutes.

    Heat the ghee in a frying pan and add the jaggery.

    Sauté till the jaggery melts.

    Stir until you get a thick consistency.

    Take the vessel off the fire and add the roasted til.

    Place parchment paper on a work surface and roll out the mixture.

    Let it cool slightly and cut it into pieces.
