A unique khichdi recipe from Garhwal, Uttarakhand is nothing but “Til Ki Khichdi” which is a healthy version of a meal enjoyed by garhwali people. This Khichdi is also known as Tilantha or Tilothu.
This dish is often consumed in winter as Khichdi keeps our body warm and energised in cold weather. The main ingredients Garhwalis use in this khichdi is black sesame seeds or kaala til. Garhwali Khichdi can be served with cottage cheese, cucumber, papad or ghee.

Ingredients ( serving 4 )
2 tablespoons ghee
1 cup rice
1/2 cup black urad dal
4 tablespoons black sesame seeds ( til )
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon garlic
2 chopped green chillies
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
8-10 black peppercorns
Pinch of Asafoetida
Salt to Taste
