In what seems to be another incident in the series of disastrous issues that have been raised with respect to the levels of hygiene in Indigo airlines, a passenger spotted cockroaches crawling in a flight’s pantry area. The video depicting the incident shows the insects crawling in the lower compartment of a storage trolley, that is typically used to stock up beverages, sandwiches and snacks. Raising questions about the food safety for the passengers, the social media user also pointed out that the unclean conditions were observed in relatively new fleets of airplanes.

Following the widespread reactions the video prompted across social media platforms, representatives of the airlines issued an official statement to the press. It stated, “We are aware of the video that was circulated on social media showing an unclean corner in one of our aircraft. Our staff promptly took the necessary action onboard. As a precautionary measure, we immediately cleaned the entire fleet and carried out fumigation and disinfection procedures. At IndiGo, we maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene to ensure a safe, hassle-free experience and regret any inconvenience caused to the passengers.”

Given that the recent video follows many incidents of food hygiene that have plagued the airline company recently, questions are being raised about the credibility and quality of service by those who have previously flown with them. In a previous occurrence, a passenger reportedly found a worm in their sandwich whilst travelling on a flight, which led the FSSAI to issue a show-cause notice to the company about the lapse in the quality of food served to fliers.
