How To Make Veg Gravy Momos Without Steamer?

It is not very clear how momos invaded India, but it probably became popular with the influx of Tibetans in India. Being a Delhiite, momos have an extraordinary place in our hearts. This easy gravy momos recipe doesn't even require the steamer to cook! In this recipe, you can even experiment with a variety of vegetables for the stuffing. But yes, the vegetables should be crisp and juicy to get the right texture and the crunch in the momos. These veg gravy momos a perfect healthy snack as they are made up of wheat flour! How to make momos without steamer? Here is the recipe:

Ingredients For Dough: 

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour 
  • ¼ plain all-purpose flour (optional) 
  • ¼ tablespoon salt 
  • Water to knead a dough 

Ingredients For Filling/Stuffing:

  • 3 tablespoon garlic (finely chopped) 
  • 2 tablespoon ginger (finely chopped)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped) 
  • 1 carrot (grated) 
  • cabbage (fine chopped/grated) 
  • Capsicum (fine chopped)
  • Green onions (fine chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon soya sauce 
  • ½ teaspoon white vinegar 
  • Salt & black pepper (as per taste)  

Ingredients For Gravy: 

  • 3 tablespoon momos chutney 
  • 5 tablespoon Amul fresh cream 
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 1 ginger (grated) 
  • 1 tablespoon chilli flakes 
  • Butter/vegetable oil. 

Procedure For Kneading A Dough: Mix all the ingredients and oil in a bowl. Mix well and add water slowly. And knead the dough until it turns non-sticky and soft. Cover the dough with cling film or muslin cloth and keep aside for 10-15 minutes. 

Procedure For Making Momos Stuffing:

  1. In a pan, add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. 
  2. Once it is heated, add ginger, garlic, onion and saute them for seconds on medium flame. 
  3. Now add other veggies, capsicum, carrot, cabbage, saute it. And then add soya sauce, vinegar, black pepper, salt and at last add green onions. 
  4. Mix and saute the stuffing. Don’t fry for a long time. 
  5. Now allow the stuffing to cool. 

Momos Time:

  1. Knead the dough and cut it into small round shapes.
  2. Shape the momos and place stuffing in the centre. 
  3. On the other side, place a pan for fry. Add vegetable oil once it is heated. 
  4. Fry your momos. Fry till it turns golden brown. 
  5. Now in the same pan, with less oil. Add ginger, onion, momos chutney, Amul cream, and drop the crispy fry momos in the gravy. Give a toss and mix the sauce to coat the dip of dressing nicely. 

Sprinkle chilli flakes and your veg gravy momos are ready without a steamer.
