Sweeten it with a wee bit of sugar

Barbecue sauce is a blend of sweet and spicy flavours. Along with spices, various sweeteners such as sugar and molasses are used while preparing it. Generally, molasses are not easily available, which is why sugar is preferred. You can sweeten your sauce with either white or brown sugar.

Amp up the flavour with herbs and spices

The addition of spices and herbs makes everything more delicious. So, be generous and add loads of them while making the sauce and also during seasoning. Onion powder can be another good addition to the rest of the ingredients. Along with this, mustard sauce and black pepper can also be used.

Smoke the sauce using charcoal method

Smoking the sauce is the most challenging part while making this sauce at home. Typically, a liquid smoke is added for getting the smoky flavour.  However, making liquid smoke can be challenging too. So, opt for the charcoal technique, instead. Take charcoal and burn it directly over the fire and then keep it inside a stainless steel bowl. Place the bowl over your sauce and leave it aside for around 10-15 minutes.
