Homemade Chicken Pickle Recipe: India has a wide variety of pickles! We Indians can eat pickles with any food item! We can accompany it with rice, parathas, biryani, puri etc. Vegetarian pickles have a considerable list like mango, lemon, ginger, chilly, garlic and karela. But have you tasted the chicken pickle? Slurpees have come up with something different for you! Chicken is rich in proteins, vitamins, and calcium, so why not consume the chicken in the form of pickles? So, let's try our hands on this pickle recipe. 

Recipe of a Chicken Pickle

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg chicken (boneless and sliced pieces) 
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of ginger, garlic paste
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of red chilli powder 
  • ½ tablespoon of turmeric powder 
  • 3 lemons (juice) 
  • 6 tablespoon oil (mustard oil) 
  • Salt as per taste 

Ingredients For Dry Powder:

  • 3 tablespoons of coriander seeds (Dhaniya)
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • 1 tablespoon of poppy seeds (Khas-Khas)
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of fenugreek seeds (Methi)
  • 7 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon stick ( dal-chini)
  • 2 cardamom (Elaichi)
  • 1 star anise (chakkr phul)

Ingredients For Tadka / Tempering:

  • Pinch of fenugreek 
  • 15-20 fresh curry leaves 
  • 5-6 dry red chilli 
  • 10-15 garlic cloves (lightly crushed) 
  • 1 cup oil (mustard) 

Method for chicken pickle:

  1. Dry roast the spices on low heat. Once it is done, cool it and combine all the roasted ingredients in the blender. Grind it in fine powder.  
  2. Take a heavy-bottomed vessel (kadhai), add oil; once it is heated, add sliced chicken, ginger garlic paste, red chilli, and salt, and cook it for 10-15 minutes (while adding ingredients to the oil, add spices on an interval basis).
  3. Reduce the heat and continue to sauté till the oil separates and extract the excess water content. 
  4. Keep stirring, and this frying takes about 20-30 mins. 
  5. On another side, heat the separate heavy bottom vessel, add oil; once it is heated, add fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilli, garlic cloves saute them till it starts popping. Add cooked chicken pieces and the leftover gravy. Combine them with the help of the spatula. 
  6. Add the roasted grounded spices and cook on a medium flame for about 10-15 minutes. Stir thoroughly. 
  7. Lastly, add a lemon drop, mix all the pickle and keep aside to cool. 
  8. Transfer your chicken pickle to a glass lid vessel, and your chicken pickle is ready.

Takeaway Tips

  1. Put the pickle in a sealed box in the refrigerator. It keeps good for about 4 to 6 weeks. 
  2. Once you wash the chicken, pat dries it, and remove the water. Water Drops can spoil your pickle. Dry the jar/ container too.
