It is common to see people discarding fruits after they turn brown. It used to happen a lot with me as I wasn’t aware of ways to prevent this from happening. When you pack sliced fruits for lunch, they become soggy and brown in colour owing to oxidation. It not only spoils the texture of fruits but also their taste. Moreover, oxidation makes fruits look unhygienic. Keeping the chopped fruits exposed to air or packed for too long leads to enzyme release from the fruits and that’s what causes the blackening of apples. If you wish to get rid of this, there are a few hacks you need to be aware of. Let us tell you about them one by one.

Rinsing sliced fruits using cold water helps in slowing the enzymatic reaction. This allows some more time for the process of oxidation to take place and hence your fruits remain fresh for a longer duration.

Try Salt Water Hack

If you plan to keep sliced or chopped fruits packed inside a container for long, the saltwater hack is best for it. Take a bowl and add cold water and half a teaspoon of salt to it. You need to put the cut fruits inside that salty water and wait for 4-5 minutes. Take them out and store them without worrying about them turning brown.

Use Ginger Ale

Dunk your fruits for some time in a Ginger ale, which is a carbonated drink and then store them. The citric acid present in them will prevent them from turning brown and also preserve their crunchy texture.

Make Fruit Mix

Planning a trip and thinking to bring chopped fruits to have during the journey? If yes, make a fruit mix. For that, you need to take a bowl and add warm water along with honey to it. Let the fruits soak the goodness of honey and then store them in a box. Rest assured, your fruits will remain crunchy and fresh for at least 8 hours.
