DIY Recipe: How To Make Orange Peel Candies At Home?

Orange peel candies are the perfect ideal snacks for kids to eat at home. It’s hygienically made up of natural oranges without any use of preservatives. You can put the candies in a lidded container that stays fresh for 2-3 weeks. Orange peel candies are; tangy, sweet, favourite among kids, highly cheap and inexpensive.   • 4 Orange peels 
  • 2 cups of white sugar/castor sugar
  • 1 cup of water 
  • ⅓ cut of white sugar for decoration (refined)


  • Slice an orange peel in strips of ¼ inch. Place a heating saucepan add water. Once it boils, add orange peel strips. Boil it for about 20 minutes. 
  • Drain and set it aside to cool. In a different pan, combine 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water. Boil and cook until it reaches the thread stage. 
  • You can check that the mixture, a small amount of sugar syrup in cold water, floats in a soft thread. It means your sugar syrup is ready.
  • Add orange peel in it and simmer for about 5 minutes and drain it out. 
  • Sprinkle/ toss or roll peel pieces in the dry sugar. And let them dry for seven to eight hours. 
  • And transfer the candies to the airtight container.

Quick Tip: 

  • You can add lemon zest/ peel or lemon drops to add a more tangy flavour to the candy. 
  • You can give one chocolaty variation to this candy also. Once you drain out the orange peel, instead of coating them in sugar, you can cover them half in melted chocolate and store them in a fridge. 
  • Apart from this, you can decorate the desserts such as pies and tarts. 
  • Chop them fine and use them into batters for the muffin, cake, or even in the sweet bread. 
  • You can sprinkle them on the flavoured frozen yoghurts or ice cream. 
  • You can give this as a gift. This orange peel candy is enough to satisfy the sweet cravings. 
  • It can be used for garnishing your drinks.
