Electric kettles are commonly used to boil milk, make tea or simply heat water. These are mostly present at hotels and are also available at home. The best part about these kettles is that they do not take up a lot of space so one can also take them with themselves while travelling. For the longest time, people have undermined the potential of electric kettles and their usage.

Electric kettles are the perfect assets for students, especially hostellers who frequently miss eating homemade food and also do not have the accessibility to order food from outside during odd hours. This is the equipment that can make a plethora of dishes without having to use different types of kitchen equipment and will take up just a small space in one's room.

* Pulao 

Pulao is one of the easiest dishes to make in an electric kettle, and the best part is that it doesn't also take a lot of time to cook. All that one has to do is pre-soak some rice for half an hour to one hour and then add it to the electric kettle with double the quantity of water. Close the lid of the electric kettle properly and let the rice cook until it becomes soft and properly mushy. Now let the rice cool down for a bit and then transfer it to another container. In the electric kettle, add some vegetable oil and stir fry vegetables like onions, peas, carrots, and tomatoes, and add a little bit of masala and salt. In this vegetable mixture, add the rice and mix everything properly to make the pulao. If one has a big-sized electric kettle, then one can choose to add vegetables along with rice in the first go only.

* Soup

Some thick vegetable soup is enough to stir the soul completely and make one feel satisfied. The best part about soups made at home is that one can always modify them and cook them as per the availability of ingredients. A classic tomato soup can be made by simply cutting the tomatoes from the top and boiling them in the electric kettle. Once they boil properly with the help of a whisker, make a purée of these tomatoes. Now add the purée of tomatoes back into the electric kettle and add a little bit of cream, spices, and herbs to the mixture. Let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes and then serve it with some crunchy breadcrumbs.

* Pasta

Pasta can be an instant treat that can be easily made in a kettle. One can choose to make instant pasta which is very easy to make. However, if one wants to make pasta from scratch, then that is also very much possible. Just take some raw pasta and boil it in the kettle first. Do not eat the boiled pasta and put it in a separate container. Simultaneously prepare pasta sauce in the kettle by adding tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, a little bit of milk and some chilli sauce. Now add the pasta to this mixture and finally add some salt and black pepper. One can also add some cheese and mix everything properly before sending it.

* Sautéed Vegetables

It's important to ensure that one is having enough vegetables regularly, for that boost of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Making some sautéed vegetables in a kettle is one of the easiest things to do. All that one has to do is take a little bit of oil or even butter and then add chopped vegetables to this mixture. Carefully sauté these vegetables and make sure that they're cooked properly. Add a bit of salt and black pepper to the sautéed vegetables. Other than sautéing, one can also steam vegetables in a kettle by simply using a small steaming basket and keeping it above a kettle full of water.

* Mashed Potatoes 

Mashed potatoes can be used for a variety of purposes. They can be eaten as it is by simply adding a bit of cheese and spices. They can also be used as stuffing inside sandwiches and burger bread. To make mashed potatoes, one has to simply take potatoes and put them inside the kettle. Boil the potatoes properly until they become perfectly soft from the inside. This can be checked with the help of a knife. If the knife passes through swiftly, then it means the potatoes have been boiled. Now take out the potatoes and let them cool down. After this peel off the outer skin and add some milk, salt, butter, and pepper to this mixture of crumbled potatoes

* Boiled Eggs

Boiled eggs are quick to make, nutritious, and also very fulfilling. Boiled eggs can be a perfect breakfast option for hostellers who want to eat something healthy and also do not want to spend a lot of time cooking food. One simply has to put eggs inside the kettle and let them boil for 8 to 10 minutes. Once the eggs have been boiled properly, take them out with the help of a large spoon. Pell off the outer shell and eat the eggs by sprinkling some black pepper and salt on the top.
