Cold Coffee: A Perfect Drink to Start Your Day

On a hot day, frosted and delicious cold coffee is a wonderful treat. As opposed to hot coffee, drinking cold coffee is quite refreshing. The fact that you won't ever again burn your tongue on a cup of extremely hot coffee implies that for the remainder of the week, everything you eat or drink will taste strange. Coffee can be consumed right away; there is no need to wait for it to warm up to a palatable temperature. And, you get a little more caffeine from cold coffee, which is what gives you the feeling of increased energy and focus.

Adenosine receptors are targeted by the stimulant caffeine (a neurotransmitter that increases sleepiness throughout the day). This improves the absorption of dopamine, which lessens how sleepy you feel as a result.

A rich origin of cold coffee describes that French Algeria is where the "first iced coffee" first appeared about 1840. "Mazagran" was a beverage created with cold water, sugar, and coffee syrup. Its creators, a legion of French soldiers in Algeria, are credited with giving it its name. The coffee recipe and the idea of cafés were brought back to France by these soldiers after their service in Africa. Since then, cold coffee has been popular in a wide variety of recipes and forms.

The most widely used variations include iced coffee drinks that resemble Italian granita coffee and freshly brewed coffee that has been chilled. Due to a marketing initiative by the American Joint Coffee Trade Publicity Committee, cold coffee saw a surge in the 1920s. However, the emergence of major franchises like Burger King, Dunkin' Donuts, and Starbucks, which established an empire in coffee, led to its global dispersion.
