Bombardino is a popular Italian drink that is immensely enjoyed during the winter season. It is especially served during the chilly weather in the ski resorts of Italy to skiers so that it keeps the winter chill away and warms up one’s soul in no time. Such a unique yet a wacky name was given to the drink after one of the imbibers noted its hot temperature and high alcohol content. It reminded him of a bomb as after finishing up this drink, the warming flavours exploded in the tummy like a little bomb. The drink is a delicious concoction of advocaat or eggnog and brandy. For the unversed, advocaat is a traditional Dutch alcoholic beverage that is blended using eggs, sugar and brandy. However, advocaat is nothing but another version of eggnog. In Italy, this drink is commonly made with vog, which is an Italian egg liqueur. This egg liqueur was created by a pastry chef with an intention to use leftover egg yolks from making nougats. The drink has a rich, creamy and custard-like consistency due to the mixture of egg yolks and whipped cream. This Italian drink is traditionally served and relished in a fancy Irish coffee mug that displays each layer in an alluring way. The drink can be customised as per taste and preference. For when someone is not in the mood for brandy, they mix the drink with parts of coffee, rum or whiskey. So here are the steps of putting together this delightful Italian drink at home.
