As per the centuries-old Indian traditions, every day of the week has its own significance. Ayurvedic sciences intricately explore how the position of planets influences diet and traditions. Talking about Wednesday, also known as Budhvar, is believed to be one of the purest days of the week.

As per Vedic astrology, Budhvar is ruled by the planet Mercury, and what you eat on a Wednesday is known to greatly impact your intellect, metabolism, and skin health. So, to get a hold of the auspicious foods to consume on Wednesdays, Slurrp interviewed Dr Partap Chauhan, a renowned Ayurvedacharya and Author, and Director of Jiva Ayurveda. Read on this Slurrp exclusive to know what foods you are advised to eat and avoid on a Wednesday.

Foods You Should Eat On Wednesday

Moong Dal

Moong dal is known to be a Satvik food in Ayurveda. Since it is light to digest, eating a bowl of moong dal in the form of khichdi, chilla, or gravy-based dal can help boost your metabolism. “As compared to all other pulses, moong helps to balance all three doshas and promotes mental clarity and, of course, digestion,” says Dr Partap.

Amla

The citrus fruit amla is believed to have rejuvenation (Rasayana) properties. As per Dr Chauhan, Amla can help in pacifying Pitta and clear toxins that often accumulate in the body in the middle of the week, which can be due to work stress or even eating unhealthy foods. If you are someone who doesn’t follow a Satvik diet, you can simply start your Wednesday by mixing amla juice in water, or pairing your meals with amla ka murabba or chuney.

Lauki

Since Wednesday marks the middle of a working week, you might need a cool and hydrating ingredient to calm Pitta and ease any acidity or bloating. Thanks to its high water content, lauki, also known as bottle gourd, can be an impeccable addition to your meals on Wednesday.

Saunf

Saunf or fennel does much more than freshen your mouth. Beneficial for both your gut and mind, saunf is a perfect addition to your diet, especially on Budhvar. “Having saunf improves Agni without aggravating Pitta. To relieve bloating or refreshen your breath, you can simply chew fennel seeds or mix saunf in water and sip throughout the day,” advises Dr Chauhan.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Even though it is always advised to add leafy greens to your plate, Ayurveda suggests that having them on a Wednesday will give you the maximum benefit. Whether you want to have spinach, methi, or bathua, just add it to any of your meals as saag, stir-fry, or sabzi every Wednesday

Ghee

Adding a spoonful of ghee to your parathas, rotis, or even a bowl of gravies and sabzis is known to be a healthy dietary practice. In Ayurveda, pure cow ghee is considered sacred and deeply beneficial for proper mental and physical growth.

Foods To Avoid On Wednesdays

Now that you have learned about the auspicious foods, you should prioritise eating on Wednesdays, you should also take into account the list of ingredients you should avoid on Budhvar.

  • Heavy lentils like chana or rajma.
  • Fermented foods like curd or vinegar.
  • Deep-fried snacks, which can aggravate Pitta and Kapha.
  • Excessive salt and sugar, which dull the mind and overload the gut.

Having these foods may disrupt Mercury’s fine-tuned systems and interfere with your intellectual and digestive efficiency.
