6 Iconic Chicken Dishes From Around The World You CANNOT Miss

We have a theory, and that is, if you happen to be a chicken lover you can pretty much adjust in any corner of the world. There is not a single major country that is not known for its signature chicken delicacies. The reason is simple, chicken is easy to work with and is just so light and versatile.  From New York To France, India To China, you would find a gamut of chicken dishes, and equally zealous chicken fans. In this piece, we pay tribute to six of our all-time favourite chicken dishes from around the world.

1. Butter Chicken- India

Call it a personal bias or anything, but our list wouldn’t have been complete without this stellar dish that was actually invented in a modest Dhaba in Delhi, as a result of an accident! Chicken tossed in a toothsome gravy made with tomatoes, cream, dry fruits and oodles of butter, this indulgent dish is famously paired with butter naan.

2. Fried Chicken- USA

Inarguably one of the most popular dishes on our list. Chicken coated with flour, spices and egg, deep fried until crisp, finished off with additional sprinkling of spices. Slurping already, aren’t you? Fried chicken is served with a range of dips, we personally like it with a sour dip.

3. Schezwan Chicken-China

It is tangy, it is fiery and it is all things scintillating. Schezwan chicken is chicken tossed in a tantalising Schezwan sauce that is made with a mix of spices, vinegar and soy sauce. Schezwan chicken is cooked on high flame, that helps retain the crunch of both chicken and veggies.

4. Chicken Shawarma- Lebanon

It takes a discerning diner to tell a true shawarma from a fake one. Shawarma is a middle-eastern wrap that is made with pita bread, it is stuffed with a gamut of things like chicken, that is grilled on a spit, veggies, lettuce, sauces and hummus. It is served with a beetroot pickle, and is undeniably one of the most wholesome wraps of all times.

5. Chicken Parmigiana-Italy

Also known as chicken parmesan, this loaded dish is essentially chicken breast which is covered in crispy bread crumbs. It is slathered over with tangy tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. As per legends, this dish is fairly modern and only came into existence in the twentieth century.

6. Coq Au Vin-France

A French comfort food. Here, chicken is braised with wine, lardons, mushrooms and garlic. ‘Coq Au Vin’ translates to ‘Chicken with wine’ in English. Typically, red wine is used to make the dish, but of course, there are many variations that exist within France itself.

These are only some of the dishes we adore and can have at any time of the day. Since it is not an exhaustive list, do feel free to tell us if we missed out on your favourite chicken dish.
