We have always admired the creativity of mothers who can put a smile on their children’s faces with their delicious ideas. But we have also enjoyed the interesting and unique combinations of flavours that we tried in food markets. The sandwich seems to be one of the quickest and easiest meals to make. So, we wanted to make something at home. We are inspired by our favourite sandwich moments. Who knows, our recipes may just be at par with what we remember!

Most of us will remember having tried the mixed fruit sandwich at Jain Coffee House in Chawri Bazar. Of course, the owners have dibs on the original recipe, but we wanted to try and recreate at least some of their magic!

1/2 cup of sliced strawberries

1/2 cup of sliced pineapple

1/2 cup of pomegranate

1/2 cup of sliced apple

1/2 cup of cottage cheese

2 bread slices

Butter

METHOD

Spread butter on each bread slice.

Layer with 2 cottage cheese strips on each slice.

Ah, the samosa sandwich. How many times have we made our own bun samosas in college, when we were out of any food? We're sure you miss the evergreen bun samosa. But if you are ever out of buns, well, making yourself the samosa sandwich is a lovely way to revisit those good old days.

INGREDIENTS

Readymade samosas

4 sliced tomatoes

2 bread slices

1 tablespoon mango chutney

1 pack of salted Lay’s

1 tablespoon of melted butter

METHOD

Spread melted butter and mango chutney on each bread slice.

Layer with sliced tomatoes and samosas.

Fold.

3. Chutney and Jam Sandwich

Our mums loved to create chutney and jam sandwiches for our tiffin boxes. A lot of times, mums even called up teachers and complained that her son or daughter’s sandwiches were being eaten by classmates. A humorous reminder that this was indeed one hell of a sandwich!

INGREDIENTS

Bread slices

Pudina chutney

Spinach

Mayonnaise

Jam

Butter

METHOD

Mix spinach, pudina chutney and mayonnaise in a bowl.

Spread melted butter, jam on one slice.

Spread the spinach mix on the other slice.

Fold.
