To expose this filler, pour a small amount of milk into a cup and add two to three drops of tincture of iodine, a common antiseptic available at any local pharmacy. Synthetic milk is not actual dairy at all but rather a hazardous chemical cocktail of urea, detergent, alkali, and cheap vegetable oils processed to mimic the look and feel of real milk. Urea is commonly added to diluted milk to artificially elevate its nitrogen levels, which helps it pass basic protein measurement tests while causing serious harm to human kidneys over time. To check for this chemical, mix one teaspoon of milk with half a teaspoon of plain soybean powder or ground arhar dal in a small glass, shake it well, and let the mixture sit for about five minutes to react. Dip a strip of red litmus paper into the liquid for a few seconds and observe the colour reaction. Since urea creates a highly alkaline environment, the red litmus paper will quickly turn blue if urea is present, whereas it will remain completely red if the milk is pure.
