Chaat is a favourite street food in India. Papdi chaat is a popular street food across the country, and in winter, you can add a special seasonal twist with delicious sweet potato or shakarkandi. Perfect for those chilly evenings with chai.
1 cup of curd ¼ teaspoon of hing 1 teaspoon of red chilli 1 teaspoon black salt ½ teaspoon of dry ginger 2 teaspoons of cumin powder ½ teaspoon of garam masala 1 teaspoon of black pepper Boiled diced sweet potatoes 2 cups of boiled chickpeas 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
1 medium-sized tomato, chopped Tamarind chutney, as required Coriander chutney, as required 1 packet of papdi Peeled pomegranate Oil as needed Salt as needed
Smoothly whisk one cup of curd. Add a pinch of salt and black salt. Set aside.
Add the boiling chickpeas and cubed sweet potatoes to a mixing dish.
Add garam masala, black pepper, black salt, hing, dry ginger powder, cumin powder, red chilli powder, and salt to taste.
Mix it well. Set it aside. Take a plate. Spread the papdi on it.
Place the spiced sweet potato-chickpea mixture on top of each papdi. Add the chopped tomato and onion.
Pour liberal amounts of coriander and tamarind chutneys. Add the whisked curd on top.
Add pomegranate and sev for garnish. Serve Kolkata-street style papdi chaat.
