Move beyond the traditional dairy milk and try out oat milk that is creamy in nature. This is a dairy-alternative that can be easily made at home. It is perfect for those who are lactose intolerant, vegan or simply looking to try a new plant-based milk. Take a look at the recipe of oat milk:
1 cup of rolled oats 4 cups of water A pinch of salt Sweetners like honey or maple syrup Vanilla extract or cocoa powder -Optional
Begin by soaking the oats in water for about 15-30 minutes. This step is crucial for achieving a smooth texture.
Drain and rinse the oats thoroughly to remove excess starch. Place the soaked oats in a blender with 4 cups of fresh water. Blend on high speed for about 30-45 seconds until the mixture looks creamy.
Using a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a fine mesh strainer, strain the oat milk into a bowl. Squeeze or press to extract as much liquid as possible. This helps eliminate the grainy texture.
Add a pinch of salt, sweeteners, or flavourings to taste. Blend briefly to combine.
Pour the oat milk into a clean container and refrigerate. It will stay fresh for up to 5 days. Shake well before each use as separation is natural.
