This recipe takes the concentrated intensity of a traditional Vietnamese coffee and swaps the beans for high-grade ceremonial matcha. The thick, velvety sweetness of condensed milk perfectly offsets the grassy, umami notes of the green tea, creating a dessert-like beverage that still delivers a calm, focused caffeine hit. It’s a sophisticated, layered drink that looks as good as it tastes.
1.5 teaspoons high-quality matcha powder 2 tablespoons hot water (roughly 80°C) 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk 1 cup milk of choice Plenty of ice cubes
In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder and hot water together using a bamboo whisk or a frother until no lumps remain and a thick paste forms.
Pour the sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of a tall serving glass.
Fill the glass to the brim with ice cubes.
Pour the milk over the ice, leaving a little room at the top.
Slowly pour the concentrated matcha over the milk to create a vibrant green layer; stir well before drinking to incorporate the condensed milk.
