Bread halwa is made from everyday ingredients to make a comforting dessert. Bread slices are roasted slowly in ghee and soaked in milk and flavoured. This halwa is soft, fragrant, and excellent when you are looking for a quick, easy dessert to make.

Ingredients

6 slices of white bread 3 tbsp ghee ½ cup full-fat milk ¼ cup sugar ¼ tsp cardamom powder 2 tbsp chopped mixed nuts 1 tbsp raisins

Step 1

Remove the crusts from bread slices and tear them into small pieces. This will ensure the bread roasts evenly and absorbs milk properly.

Step 2

In a pan, heat ghee on a low flame. Add bread pieces and roast them slowly until it turns crisp and golden on both sides.

Step 3

In another pan, warm milk and add sugar to it. Add the cardamom powder and mix it well to make the milk lightly sweet and aromatic.

Step 4

Pour the warm milk over the roasted bread. Stir it gently so the bread turns soft and absorbs the milk, without turning mushy.

Step 5

Cook this on low heat, and stir constantly, until the mixture has a thick texture, leaves the sides of the pan, and has a soft halwa-like consistency.

Step 6

To this, add the chopped nuts and raisins, mix everything well, and cook for another 1-2 minutes and serve it warm.
