This summer, try adding more seasonal flavours to your homemade sandwiches. The Ahmedabad-special pineapple cheese sandwich is the perfect summer sandwich and has the perfect sweet-meets-savoury element. Here's how to perfect this recipe.
– 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat) – 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) – 1 cup finely chopped pineapple (fresh or canned) – 1 small green bell pepper – 2-3 green chilies – 2 tablespoons butter – Salt to taste – Black pepper to taste – Chaat masala
In a mixing bowl, combine the grated cheese, finely chopped pineapple, onion, green bell pepper, and green chilies. Season the filling with salt, black pepper, and a pinch of chaat masala, if desired.
Take two slices of bread and spread a generous amount of the prepared filling on one slice. Place another slice of bread on top to form a sandwich.
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Spread a little butter on the outside of each sandwich.
Place the sandwiches on the heated pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Press down gently on the sandwiches with a spatula while cooking to help melt the cheese and ensure even browning.
Once the sandwiches are cooked to perfection, remove them from the pan and transfer them to a cutting board. Allow the sandwiches to cool for a minute or two, then slice them diagonally.
