Paired with dosa, idli, uttapam, vada, and other South Indian delicacies, green chutney is a delicious accompaniment. Its tangy and spicy notes add flavour to your curries and rice-based dishes. Here is the authentic recipe for you to try out.
2-3 tablespoons roasted chana dal ½ teaspoon urad dal 1 cup grated coconut 1-2 dried red chillies Salt to taste A pinch of asafoetida 1-inch ginger 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves 6-7 curry leaves 2-3 roughly chopped green chillies ½ cup hung curd ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
In a food processor, blend chopped green chillies, roasted chana dal, grated coconut, hung curd, coriander leaves, and salt to taste.
Once the paste is smooth, add water to adjust the consistency. Turn on the blend for a few seconds only.
Transfer the chutney into a bowl and keep it aside.
Prepare the tempering of mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, and asafoetida.
Add curry leaves to the tempering and pour it over the green chutney.
Serve the chutney as an accompaniment with South or North Indian delights.
