Known for its rich, decadent taste and a quintessential Christmassy flavor profile, eggnog is a popular Christmas drink. Made with milk, cream, eggs, spices, and sugar, it is loved for its indulgent nature. With this Chocolate Eggnog recipe, this winter, give it a sweet chocolatey spin.

Ingredients

6 large eggs (keep the yolks and whites separated) 1.5 cups granulated sugar 6 cups whole milk 1 cup heavy cream A pinch of salt ¾ cup chopped dark chocolate 2 cinnamon sticks 1.5 cups alcohol of choice (dark rum/brandy/bourbon ) ¼ teaspoon nutmeg powder

Step 1

Start by melting the chocolate in a double boiler. Set it aside to cool slightly.

Step 2

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with about 1 cup of sugar and a pinch of salt. Keep the rest of the sugar aside.

Step 3

Heat the milk and cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the cinnamon sticks until they reach a gentle simmer. Add 1 cup of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolk mixture for tempering.

Step 4

Combine the tempered egg mixture with the rest of the milk and cream mixture and cook well. Slowly add the melted chocolate and mix. Chill the chocolate eggnog base in the refrigerator for 3 hours.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar. Gently fold them into the chilled chocolate eggnog base.

Step 6

Stir in the alcohol. Pour them into glasses and garnish them with a dollop of whipped cream. Add nutmeg powder or chocolate shavings on top.
