Red sauce pasta is a flavourful Italian dish made with pasta tossed in a tangy tomato-based sauce. It’s cooked with garlic, onions, herbs, and spices, often enriched with cheese or vegetables. This comforting dish pairs well with garlic bread and is a favourite among all ages.
200 gms pasta (spaghetti, penne, or your choice) 2 tbsp of olive oil 3-4 cloves of garlic 1 medium onion 4-5 large tomatoes Salt Black pepper
Fill a large pot with water, add salt, and bring it to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.
Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until they are translucent and the garlic is fragrant. Add the pureed tomatoes and stir well to combine.
Season with salt, black pepper, red chilli flakes (if using), and Italian seasoning. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If the sauce becomes too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
Add the cooked pasta to the pan with the red sauce and toss until well coated.
Transfer the red sauce pasta to serving plates. Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
