Bonda soup is a traditional South Indian dish made with urad dal bondas in a comforting lentil soup. The dish is enjoyed as a starter or a snack, perfect for chilly evenings or festive meals.
For Bondas: 1 cup urad dal 2 green chillies 1 ginger Chopped curry leaves Salt to taste Oil for deep frying For the Soup: ½ cup moong dal (soaked for 30 minutes) 2 chopped tomatoes 2 slit green chillies 1 piece grated ginger ½ tsp turmeric powder 4 cups water Salt to taste For Tempering: 1 tbsp ghee 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds A few curry leaves A pinch of asafoetida
Grind soaked urad dal, add spices, and fry in hot oil.
Pressure cook the moong dal with turmeric, tomatoes, green chillies, ginger and mash lightly.
Add tempering with ghee and spices to the soup.
Place bondas in a bowl, pour hot soup over them and garnish.
