Moong Dal Barfi is a traditional North Indian sweet made by slow-roasting yellow moong dal and cooking it with ghee, sugar, and khoya. It has a melt-in-the-mouth texture and a delightful nutty aroma - perfect for celebrations or special occasions.
1 cup yellow moong dal ½ cup ghee ¾ cup sugar (adjust to taste) ½ cup khoya (mawa), crumbled ½ cup milk ¼ tsp cardamom powder Chopped nuts for garnish
Soak moong dal in water for 3–4 hours, then drain and grind into a coarse paste (no water).
In a heavy pan, heat ghee and roast the dal paste on low flame until golden brown and aromatic (20–25 mins).
Add milk, khoya and cook until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides.
Add sugar, cardamom powder and stir continuously until it forms a soft dough-like consistency.
Transfer to a greased tray, spread evenly, garnish with nuts, and let it set.
Once cool, cut into squares and serve.
