Traditional Mawa Cake Recipe For The Holiday Season

Mawa cake is a classic Indian bakery-style cake that appears frequently during the holiday season, especially in western India. It is gently sweet, rich from khoya, and meant to be eaten plain with tea rather than decorated or iced.

Ingredients

1 cup mawa (khoya), crumbled ¾ cup sugar ½ cup butter, softened 3 eggs 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder ¼ tsp cardamom powder Chopped almonds or pistachios

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.

Step 2

Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in mawa and cardamom until smooth.

Step 3

Fold in flour and baking powder gently.

Step 4

Pour into a greased tin, top with nuts and bake until set and lightly golden.
