Kathal kofta is a hearty vegetarian dish made from raw jackfruit that has been shaped into soft balls. The koftas have a meaty texture that makes the meal feel hearty and filling. Although it takes time to make kathal kofta, when prepared correctly, it can be done in a small amount of time.
For the kofta 300 g raw kathal (jackfruit), peeled, chopped, and boiled until soft 2 tablespoons besan (gram flour) 1 green chilli, finely chopped 1 teaspoon ginger paste ½ teaspoon garam masala Salt, to taste Oil, for shallow frying
For the gravy 2 tablespoons oil 1 medium onion, finely ground 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste 2 medium tomatoes, finely pureed ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder ½ teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder Salt, to taste
Mash the boiled kathal well, add besan, green chilli, ginger paste, garam masala, and salt, then mix into a firm mixture.
Shape the mixture into small koftas, then shallow fry in hot oil until golden on all sides; remove and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add ground onion, then, cook until light golden and aromatic.
Add ginger-garlic paste, tomato puree, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and salt, then cook until oil separates.
Add water, bring to a gentle boil, add the koftas, and simmer briefly so they absorb the gravy.
