If you don’t have a traditional idli maker, you can always make the South Indian staple in a microwave. To get the softest batch of steamed idlis, follow these steps and get a quick and healthy meal at home.
Make the idli batter with soaked rice and urad dal. Blend the grains and water till smooth.
Grease the microwave-safe idli plates with a little oil so the batter doesn’t stick to the bottom.
Pour the batter into the idli plates and fill them to about three-fourths, leaving space for the idlis to rise.
Cover the idli plates and cook in the microwave for about five minutes.
After the idlis are fully cooked, set them aside for about two minutes to cool down before serving.
