Tomato bath is a popular South Indian rice dish made with ripe tomatoes, spices, and cooked rice. It’s mildly tangy, flavourful, and perfect for a quick meal. This dish is often enjoyed in Karnataka as part of an everyday lunch or as a tiffin box favourite.
2 cups cooked rice 3 chopped tomatoes 1 sliced onion 2 slit green chillies (slit) 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 8-10 curry leaves 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds ½ tsp cumin seeds 1½ tsp sambar powder ¼ tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp red chilli powder to taste salt 1 tsp ghee 2 tbsp coriander leaves
Heat oil, splutter mustard and cumin seeds, add curry leaves, onions, green chillies, and sauté.
Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw smell is gone.
Add tomatoes, turmeric, chilli powder, sambar powder, and salt, and cook until the mixture becomes mushy.
Gently mix in the rice, add the ghee, and toss well.
Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
