While completely refraining from eating during the period of the total solar eclipse isn’t ideal, it is advisable to consume nourishing, light and sattvic foods during the time. However, avoiding certain types of foods are important in order to prevent long-term digestive issues.
Steering clear of non-vegetarian food with excessive spices and oil is ideal since they take longer to digest than fruits or vegetables.
While popular belief suggests that pre-cooked food tends to get contaminated during the eclipse, avoiding bread is a good idea in order to not feel heavy around the time.
Foods like pickles, dosas or any other types of preparations that involve fermentation might disrupt the digestive process during this time.
Making an effort to avoid consuming beverages with alcohol in them is believed to prevent restlessness or feelings of agitation, allowing a natural flow of energy.
Believed to increase negative energy in some cultures, onions are also thought to be a stimulating and dull type of food which might leave one feeling low.
While it is necessary for the body to be at rest as much as possible during the eclipse, coffee has the capacity to block receptors in the brain.
