We usually associate a Hot Toddy with winter, but when the transition from scorching heat to AC-chilled rooms brings on those "summer sniffles," this drink is a lifesaver. This version is lighter and more aromatic, focusing on ginger and honey to soothe a scratchy throat without the heavy, warming spices of December. It’s a restorative tonic designed to help your body adapt to seasonal shifts.
60ml Bourbon or Scotch (optional) 1 cup hot water (steaming, not boiling) 1 tbsp raw honey 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice 2 thin slices of fresh ginger 3–4 fresh mint leaves (the summer twist)
Place the ginger slices and mint leaves in a mug and gently press them with a spoon to release their natural oils.
Pour in the hot water and let the aromatics steep for about 3 minutes.
Stir in the honey and lemon juice until the honey is completely dissolved.
Add the whiskey if desired, give it one final stir, and sip slowly. The mint provides a subtle cooling sensation that makes this drink surprisingly pleasant even in warmer weather.
