The Negroni traces back to Florence in the early 1900s and is closely tied to Italy’s aperitivo culture, where drinks are served before dinner to stimulate the appetite. Its equal-parts formula of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth gives it structure and balance. The bitterness is intentional and central to its identity. Traditionally served over ice with an orange peel, it is a drink built around simplicity and proportion. The technique relies more on proper stirring and dilution than complexity.
