Masala puri is a flavoured Indian snack that blends crispy puris with a savoury, spicy, and fragrant masala mix. Ideal for evening cravings or festive get-togethers, this easy recipe delivers crunch and compelling zing in every bite.
1 cup whole wheat flour 2 tbsp semolina (or sooji) ½ tsp ajwain ½ tsp red chilli powder ¼ tsp turmeric powder Salt to taste 2 tsp oil (for dough) + for frying Water as needed
In a bowl, mix wheat flour, sooji, ajwain, salt, and other essential spices. Add 2 tablespoons of oil and blend to make a crumbly mixture.
Slowly pour water and knead to make a stiff but smooth dough. Keep it for about 10–15 minutes.
Divide the dough into small balls and roll out each using rolling to make small, medium-thick puris.
In a deep pan, heat oil on medium flame, making sure the oil is hot but does not turn smoky.
Fry puris in small batches until they turn golden brown and crisp on both sides.
Place the fried puris on a paper towel to soak away excess oil and maintain crispiness.
Serve hot with spicy aloo masala or chutney, ideal for tea-time snacking.
