Semiya upma is a quick and light South Indian breakfast made with roasted vermicelli, tempered spices, and vegetables. It’s a comforting dish that’s mildly spiced and perfect for busy mornings or a simple evening snack. Served hot, it pairs well with coconut chutney or pickle.
1 cup vermicelli roasted 2 cups water 2 tbsp oil 1 chopped onion 1-2 slit green chillies 8-10 curry leaves ½ tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal Salt to taste
Heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, green chillies, chopped onion and sauté till onions turn soft.
Add 2 cups of water, salt and let it boil.
Add roasted vermicelli and stir well.
Cook on a low flame till the water is absorbed and the semiya is soft.
Fluff and serve hot.
