South Indian lemon rice is a simple, flavourful comfort dish made with curry leaves, lemon juice, and gentle spices. It’s quick to prepare, refreshing to eat, and one of the easiest rice dishes to enjoy on busy days or during travel.
2 cups cooked rice 1 tbsp oil or ghee ½ tsp mustard seeds 8–10 curry leaves 1 green chilli (chopped) ½ tsp turmeric Juice of 1 lemon Salt and roasted peanuts to taste
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilli.
Stir in turmeric and salt, then add cooked rice.
Mix well until the rice is coated evenly with the tempering.
Turn off the heat, squeeze in lemon juice, and top with peanuts before serving.
