Appe, also known as paniyaram is a classic South Indian staple that has a crispy exterior and a soft and fluffy centre. To have a quick and healthy breakfast or snack, follow this recipe to make appe at home.
1 cup rice 1/4 cup urad dal 1/4 cup fenugreek seeds 1/4 cup grated coconut 1 green chilli, finely chopped 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder Salt to taste Water as needed
Rinse and soak rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds for at least 5 hours.
Add grated coconut, green chilli, turmeric, cumin powder, and salt. Grind to get a smooth batter.
Add water to adjust consistency. Let the batter ferment.
Heat the appe pan or mould and pour in the batter.
Cook till the appe are golden brown on both sides. Serve with sambar or coconut chutney.
