Mattha is a light, refreshing buttermilk that is perfect to have during summer days. Cooling, easy to digest and also gently spiced. It keeps feeling refreshed when heavy drinks feel a bit too much.
1 cup thick curd 2 cups chilled water ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder ¼ teaspoon black salt ¼ teaspoon regular salt (or to taste) 1 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped 6 to 8 mint leaves ½ green chilli, optional 4 ice cubes 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
In a large bowl or blender, add thick fresh curd. Use chilled curd to get a cooler, refreshing summer drink.
Now, pour in chilled water to this. This will help in controlling the consistency and make the light, drinkable consistency of mattha.
Add the roasted cumin powder, black salt and regular salt to this to enhance its flavour.
Add some chopped coriander, mint leaves and green chilli, as per the taste, to the drink.
Blend this for thirty seconds or whisk briskly until the desired texture consistency.
Pour the prepared mattha in tall glasses, add ice cubes and a mint to garnish. Drink fresh for the best cooling effect.
