With schools in Maharashtra closed for the day, parents are looking for quick ways to keep children fed and cheerful indoors. Rainy weather calls for warm, comforting snacks, but stepping out to shop is hardly practical. These easy recipes can be made with ingredients you are likely to already have at home, making them perfect for a cosy day when the focus is on convenience and comfort.
Bread slices, gram flour, and basic spices come together for this favourite snack. You can add mashed potato, grated paneer, or even a little leftover sabzi as filling. Served with ketchup or green chutney, these turn into an instant hit with kids.
If there is frozen or boiled corn at home, you can quickly toss it with salt, pepper, a squeeze of lemon, and a touch of butter. For extra flavour, add chopped onions, tomatoes, and a pinch of chaat masala.
Leftover vegetables, boiled potatoes, or even grated cheese can be turned into fillings for parathas. Rolled out with whole wheat dough, they cook quickly on a tawa with a little ghee or oil.
Most kitchens stock a packet of instant noodles. To make them more wholesome, add chopped carrots, peas, or beans if available in the freezer. A scrambled egg or paneer cubes can also go in for added protein.
If the children are asking for something sweet, fruit custard or a quick milkshake works well. A packet of custard powder with milk and sugar can be turned into dessert with whatever fruit you have at home.
With flour, milk, and a little sugar, you can whip up a simple pancake batter. A touch of baking powder helps them rise. Cooked on a non-stick pan and drizzled with honey, chocolate spread, or even jam, these make a warm, playful treat.
