Deeply flavoured and indulgent, this chicken changezi recipe is a classic Mughlai chicken curry known for its smoky notes and bold spices. Made with roasted chicken and a rich tomato-based gravy, it’s a true restaurant-style chicken changezi for festive meals.
500 g chicken (bone-in or boneless) 3 tbsp oil or butter 1 cup onion paste 1 cup tomato puree 2 tbsp fresh cream 2 tbsp cashew paste 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp coriander powder ½ tsp garam masala ½ tsp cumin powder Salt to taste Fresh coriander for garnish
Heat oil or butter in a pan and lightly fry the chicken until golden, then remove and set aside.
In the same pan, sauté onion paste until fragrant and slightly golden.
Add ginger-garlic paste, tomato puree, cashew paste, and all dry spices; cook until oil separates.
Return chicken to the gravy, add water as needed, and simmer until chicken is tender.
Finish with fresh cream and garam masala; garnish with coriander and serve hot.
