Sawan 2026 calls for observing the sacred fasting month with meals that provide sustained energy without violating strict dietary guidelines. Buckwheat flour, known locally as kuttu, serves as a brilliant substitute for regular flour to create a pliable and fasting compliant dough. Steaming these momos ensures a healthy and light meal while delivering the rich flavours of popular street food right at home. A simple filling of grated paneer, rock salt, and black pepper keeps the dish nutritious and highly enjoyable. This steaming hot snack is light on the stomach and makes the fasting period deeply satisfying.
1 cup kuttu atta (buckwheat flour) Warm water to knead the dough 1 cup fresh paneer, finely grated 1 teaspoon ginger, finely grated 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder Sendha namak (rock salt) to taste 1 teaspoon ghee or oil for greasing
Mix the grated paneer, ginger, black pepper powder, and rock salt in a bowl to prepare a simple and fasting friendly filling.
Knead the kuttu atta with warm water to form a smooth and pliable dough, then let it rest for ten minutes.
Pinch out small portions of the dough, roll them into thin circles, and place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the centre of each circle.
Fold and seal the edges securely to shape the momos, then steam them in a greased steamer for 10 to 12 minutes until the outer layer is fully cooked and non sticky.
