Observing the holy month of Sawan 2026 involves mindful eating, and shifting away from oil-heavy vadas or khichdi can make fasting much lighter on the digestive system. Sabudana salad offers a fresh, raw-inspired alternative that combines tender soaked sago pearls with crisp diced cucumber, juicy pomegranate seeds, and crunchy roasted peanuts. Tossed with sendha namak, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and cumin, this dish provides immediate hydration and sustained energy throughout rainy fasting days. It is a vibrant, modern take on traditional vrat food that comes together in minutes.

Ingredients

11 cup sabudana (tapioca pearls), soaked in water for 4 hours and drained 1 cup cucumber, finely diced 1/2 cup roasted peanuts, coarsely crushed 1/2 cup fresh pomegranate seeds 1 green chilli, finely chopped 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder Sendha namak (rock salt) to taste A handful of fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped

Step 1

Steam the soaked and drained sabudana in a steamer for 5 minutes until the pearls turn translucent and soft, then spread them on a wide plate to cool completely.

Step 2

Transfer the cooled sabudana to a large mixing bowl and add the diced cucumber, crushed roasted peanuts, pomegranate seeds, and green chilli.

Step 3

Sprinkle the sendha namak, roasted cumin powder, and fresh lemon juice over the ingredients.

Step 4

Toss everything together gently using two spoons so the tapioca pearls stay intact, garnish with fresh coriander leaves, and serve chilled.
