There is no better companion for a grey, rainy evening than a mug of hot, spiced butter rum. This comforting brew leans into the deep, earthy sweetness of dark molasses and the aromatic warmth of seasonal spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. The secret to the signature velvety mouthfeel is a pre-made spiced butter compound that emulsifies instantly when hit with hot water and premium dark rum, creating a rich, frothy, and deeply soul-warming experience.
60ml premium dark rum 1 tbsp unsalted butter (room temperature) 1 tsp dark brown sugar or muscovado sugar 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, a pinch of ground cloves, and a tiny grating of fresh nutmeg 150ml boiling water A cinnamon stick for stirring
Mash the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg together in a small bowl until you create a smooth, homogenous spiced butter compound.
Transfer the compound into the base of a sturdy, heat-proof glass mug or ceramic cup.
Pour the measured dark rum over the spiced butter, followed immediately by the boiling water.
Stir vigorously with a cinnamon stick for at least 30 seconds to ensure the butter emulsifies completely into the hot liquid, creating a thick, frothy, and deeply aromatic cocktail.
