With Diwali knocking on our doors, snacks like chaklis have the centre stage among savoury food items. Chaklis are basically deep-fried spiral-shaped Indian snacks made with gram flour or rice flour. This rice flour chakli recipe is easy to follow.

Ingredients

300 cups of rice flour 100 grams of chana dal, roasted ½ cup of warm oil 3 tablespoons of sesame oil A few cumin seeds ½ a spoon of hing ½ a spoon of turmeric powder ⅕ tablespoons of Kashmiri red chilli powder 3 cups of water Vegetable oil

Step 1

Grind roasted chana into powder and strain. Add  rice flour. Take ½ cup of warmed-up oil, add to the mixture. Knead.

Step 2

Next, put in the turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, cumin seeds, sesame oil, hing and salt together and mix it.

Step 3

As you keep kneading, begin to add the water little by little. Let dough reach medium soft consistency.

Step 4

Spread it out with your hands. Take chakli cutter or mould cutter, oil it up.

Step 5

Press cutter or mould into dough, cut out pieces of spiral-shaped chaklis. Join ends of spiral dough from both sides.

Step 6

On medium flame, heat oil. Put chakli-shaped doughs one by one into oil and fry  until they are golden.

Step 7

Remove them from the oil and set them aside to cool, then let the oil drain out.  Serve with tea, coffee, and drinks.
