Originating from the South Tyrol region of Northern Italy, the Hugo Spritz was created as a refined alternative to the Aperol Spritz, specifically designed to celebrate alpine flavours. During the monsoons, its crisp profile and aromatic elderflower notes offer a sophisticated way to embrace the humidity, as the floral botanicals provide a cooling, revitalising experience that feels both light and celebratory against the backdrop of grey skies.

Ingredients

150ml chilled Prosecco 30ml elderflower liqueur (or quality cordial) 60ml chilled soda water 6-8 fresh mint leaves 2 lime wedges

Step 1

Add the elderflower liqueur and mint leaves to a large wine glass, gently bruising the leaves with a spoon to release their oils.

Step 2

Fill the glass generously with ice cubes to keep the drink chilled without rapid dilution.

Step 3

Pour in the chilled Prosecco and soda water, then give the mixture one gentle stir from the bottom.

Step 4

Squeeze the lime wedges over the glass and drop them in as a garnish before serving immediately.
