Red Rice Idli: Soft, Nutritious South Indian Favourite

Red rice idli is a healthy variation of the classic idli, made by blending soaked red rice and urad dal into a fermented batter. It has a subtle nutty taste and is easy to digest.

Ingredients

2 cups red rice 1 cup urad dal (whole, skinless) 1 tsp fenugreek seeds Salt to taste Water (as needed) Oil (for greasing moulds)

Step 1

Wash and soak red rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds separately for 6 hours.

Step 2

Grind urad dal into a smooth, fluffy batter. Grind red rice into a coarse batter.

Step 3

Combine both batters, add salt, and ferment overnight or 8–10 hours.

Step 4

Pour into greased idli moulds and steam for 10–12 minutes.
