As the day-long fast opens during Ramadan, the first sip of a cool beverage feels extremely satisfying. Mohabbat Ka Sharbat, a beloved Old Delhi drink, is one such refreshing drink that is prepared. It is lightly sweet, with a beautifully pink shade, and is both hydrating and relaxing, making it a favoured choice after a long day of fasting.
2 cups chilled milk 1 cup small watermelon cubes 2 tablespoons Rooh Afza 2 tablespoons sugar (optional) 1 tablespoon soaked sabja (basil) seeds 8–10 ice cubes 1 tablespoon chopped pistachios or almonds (optional)
Soak 1 tablespoon sabja seeds in ½ cup water for about 10 minutes until they swell and get a jelly-like texture.
Take a large vessel or jug and add 2 cups of chilled milk, 2 tablespoons of Rooh Afza and mix it well until you see the bright pink shade.
Add the watermelon cubes to this milk. The natural sweetness and freshness are what make the sharbat ideal for iftar hydration.
To this, now mix the soaked sabja seeds and 2 tablespoons of sugar if you like it extra sweet. Stir everything well.
Add about 8 to 10 ice cubes to this to make it extra cool.
Pour the prepared Mohobbat Ka Sharbat into glasses and garnish it with chopped pistachios or almonds, and serve for a cooling drink.
